Nissan, Infiniti Shift Focus to Core Models 27-01-2015

Saffran Use Car
Despite showing off three different exciting, performance-focused concepts recently, Nissan executives have backed away from discussing them while only last year each one of them seemed destined for production. First there was the futuristic BladeGlider concept, which former global product planning chief Andy Palmer said was coming to U.S. dealerships. Palmer also insisted that the IDx concept, a small rear-wheel drive sports car, would be heading for production. Palmer has since left the company to become the CEO at Aston Martin, while current executives at the company have shied away from discussing the fate of these cars. There is also the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept, a high-horsepower car that former president Johan de Nysschen said would be produced. Now, de Nysschen has moved on to become head of Cadillac and the fate of the Eau Rouge seems bleak, although it hasn't been taken completely off the table. Instead of building any of these niche sports cars, Nissan and Infiniti will put their efforts behind a core group of cars that sell in high volumes. Nissan has already said that a major change is coming to the Altima in 2016 to help it stay competitive, while Infiniti just revealed the new Q60 concept, an essential car for the brand considering it has sold an average of 14,000 units a year for the past 12 years.
