Japan to get pair of electric Volkswagens 22-10-2014

Japan's electric vehicle market is off to a slow start, but German automaker Volkswagen is about to give it a go anyway. VW's Japanese unit on Tuesday said it will release electric versions of two popular models next year. The company is betting that improved charging infrastructure and battery performance will trigger market growth soon. The e-up! -- a small four-seater -- can travel 185km per charge. VW plans to begin taking orders for the model in Japan in February, then start deliveries in March at the earliest. The car is to retail for 3,669,000 yen ($33,881) -- or less than 3 million yen if you factor in government subsidies for light-on-the-planet vehicles. VW will also introduce the e-Golf, the electric version of its mainstay Golf compact, in mid-2015. The e-up! and the e-Golf have the same exteriors and interiors as their gasoline counterparts. This allows VW to keep costs down. - See more at: http://newsonjapan.com/html/newsdesk/article/109896.php#sthash.AVGDTdli.dpuf
